Wes Studi is a Cherokee native American actor, an Oklahoman as well as a sculptor and a Vietnam vet. Studi has played many different Indian roles from a variety of native American tribes in his long acting career, but won much acclaim for his role as a Magua Native American in the movie The Last of the Mohicans. He also is well known from the movie Dances with Wolves. Wes Studi was born in the city of Norfire Hollow, Oklahoma, and is a native Cherokee Indian who spoke only his native tongue until the age of 5. He began acting in the American Indian theatre company in Tulsa, and since then has pursued a career in acting professionally. He has appeared in more than 50 movies, including Comanche Moon, and Mystery Men. In his early life he was drafted into the army. This happened in 1967, and he served around a year and a half in Vietnam in the 9th infantry, before returning home and beginning his acting career. In addition to this, the famous actor went to Chilocco Indian school located in northern Oklahoma. He also studied at Tulsa Junior college.
An interesting note in the life of Wes Studi is that he is a lover of music and played in a six instrument band named Firecat of Discord, in which his wife is the main vocalist. The original music that they play is enjoyed by his family and friends, as well as others all around the US and some other countries around the world, though they do not have much of a following. In 2010, Wes visited the Yakama Nation Casino at Toppenish, Washington, in order to MC their Tribal Jam event. During this visit he met with the Yakama Tribal Council, and also the Casino’s board of directors in order to show his respect. This casino is operated by members of the Yakama Native American Nation.
